The Wildlife Rescue Centre Ostend is urgently looking for 1 short-term volunteer with less opportunity for june and july 2011 (2009-BEFL-44).

A wildlife hospital is an unusual place with special needs and atmosphere run by mostly volunteers. We want to give not only local but also international volunteers with interests in wildlife rescue the possibility to get unique experiences. An international volunteer can have a different point of view in these matters, which can be refreshing for the local volunteers. Many of our staff and volunteers had in the past good contacts with international organisations and people abroad. This was one of the extra motivations to start with the project. Thus, wildlife hospital will be this project's working location in order to stimulate the resource to a working environment that not only contributes from the volunteer's own interests and knowledge but also allows his/her personal growth and realization as an active participant.

Tasks
This project is a good chance for volunteers to learn how a wildlife rescue centre works. The work is divers: each season and every day is different, you don't know which birds will arrive. In summer we deal with mostly young birds and wild mammals. An EVS-volunteer will learn how to raise them. So they will have the opportunity to work closely with wildlife. We think we can offer an interesting and most important, useful work. The work that volunteers do is rewarded with the release of wildlife back into nature. An EVS-volunteer spends a lot of time in the centre, so they learn a lot of tasks.

Criteria
- You speak good English.
- You have a big heart for animals, and motivation to work with wildlife.
- You can handle stress: summer can be very busy.
- You have to be a disadvantaged youngster.
