Short description of hosting organization:
Vilnius Waldorf school is the school of general education where education is organized according to the principles of Waldorf pedagogic. In Lithuania there are 4 types of such schools and there are more than 1000 Waldorf schools all over the world. Waldorf education is a pedagogical approach that takes the child as a starting point and supports and enriches the development of each child’s potential. Waldorf school tries to give all-round education that is why much attention is paid not only to cognitive but also to practical, social and artistic subjects. In our school the performances are staged by 8-11 formers. What is more they also have an opportunity to try themselves in various art and technological activities (such as drawing, painting, sculpture, carving and bookbinding). To develop students’ social and practical skills we organize different practice in kindergartens, daily centers, biodynamical farms and forests.
There are 12 classes in our school (1set of 1-12forms). There are 35 teachers and 226 students. Healthy social interaction between teachers and children is particularly important in our school.
The age of the students is from 7 till 18 years old and the average age of the employees 36 years.
Description of vacancy:
A volunteer will assist teachers in the daily pedagogical process. The main activities, which we could offer for the volunteer, will be in assisting teachers in artistic education as our school focuses on students’ artistic development. Waldorf pedagogy does not content dry accumulation of knowledge, so our subjects (especially in younger grades, when a child senses related to the environment) wraps into artistic forms. Children learn drawing, playing music, listening to stories, cast in. School art and music lessons, drama lessons are no less important than other things. Senior school students are introduced to art and architectural history, going to art knowledge for the trip. Performing arts are very important – from the mini-Christmas performances of plays and ending with the chief drama, comedies and musicals. Also volunteers will accompany the students to the swimming pool, the hikes or excursions, help the teachers at the canteen during dinner break and etc. Taking into consideration volunteers’ motivation, skills and interests will develop daily activities for every volunteer personally.
Preliminary volunteers week in our school:
| 8.00 – 8.30 | active games with children outside or in a classroom (every day) |
| 8.30 -10.00 | getting ready for brunch: to bring dishes to the dinning room, to help little children to bring food to their classrooms, to gather dishes after brunch, to clean the dinning room. To wash dishes in a dishwasher (every day) |
| 10.00-13.00 | to escort students to the swimming pool (once a week) |
| 13.00 – 14.30 | to maintain order in the dinning room during lunch: to bring dishes and food to the dinning room, to maintain cleanliness in the dinning room, to tidy the dinning room after lunch, to wash dishes in a dishwasher (every day) |
| 13.00 – 17.00 | to help in a an afternoon group: take children to the yard, to organize class games, to help teacher to prepare afternoon snacks (every day) |
| 15.00-16.00 | to take part in the student council activities (once a week) |

Volunteer’s selection criteria:
The main characteristics of the volunteers’ profile we would host should be:
- open-mindedness and flexibility;
- resolution and motivation to gain experience in working;
- responsibility to fulfil the given tasks;
- interest and related activities on art and/or culture;
- adequacy with our aims, objectives and target group.
Selection process:
All interested candidates please send filled VOLUNTEER’S APPLICATION FORM to culture@in-action.eu till 23rd of March 2010. Keep in mind, that before sending application make sure, that you filled all information including details of your Sending organization.
Selection of volunteers will be in two phase:
1 – several candidates will be selected from their applications from 23rd till 28th of March 2010.
2 – if necessary we will have Skype interview with several selected candidates on 29th of March 2010 for last decision.
