Invitation to participate in the feasibility visit "Basket of cultures’ balls"
The idea is to plan one or more projects related with European basketball championship 2011. It could be a youth exchange(s) about basketball culture and/or an EVS project(s) in Lithuania or partner countries with activities involving basketball and intercultural learning. Activities could be held in 2010 and 2011.
The participants can be people who are working with young people aged 16-29 and have an interest in using basketball culture as a tool for intercultural learning. Projects will not be targeted to organise professional training camps or competitions but will create opportunities for young people to learn non-formally using various methods.
What is a feasibility visit?
A short meeting with potential partners to explore the possibility to develop a project.
Feasibility visits can be supported by the Youth in Action Programme under action 4.3 “Training and Networking of those active in youth work and youth organisations”.
Background information
European basketball championship will be held in Lithuania in 2011. It is planned that the tournament will take place in 4-6 different towns (Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, Panevėžys, Alytus).
Second European men basketball championship was held in Lithuania in 1939 and Lithuania had to organise the next championship but it did not happen due to the II World War. Lithuanian men national team holds 3 European champion titles and has been participating in all Olympic games since 1992 always finishing in top 4. Basketball is sport no. 1 in Lithuania by its popularity and it is several times more popular than football which is sports no. 2. Basketball is sometimes called the second religion in Lithuania.
